All welcome to Christmas tree lights switch on

Published: 1 December, 2008

The west Belfast community have been invited to attend the switching on of the Christmas tree lights at the former Andersonstown barracks site on Thursday, 11 December.

At 7pm that evening, a Christmas procession will leave from the gates of the Falls Park and proceed to the barracks site.

The procession will be led by All-Ireland camogie champions Rossa and the lights will be switched on by Rossa team captain and All-Star Jane Adams.

The tree has been provided by Feile an Phobail in conjunction with the West Belfast Traders' Association.

Santa Claus will be present at the launch along with a group of carol singers who will get everyone in the mood for Christmas.

Sinn Fein MLA Paul Maskey said:

''I would like to welcome the initiative taken by Feile an Phobail and I would also like to commend local residents groups who are working alongside Feile director Sean Pol O'Hare to ensure that everyone who attends enjoys the festive fun which is in store for them.''

''Last years switching on of the lights was attended by hundreds of parents and children from throughout west Belfast and we would again like to invite everyone to come along on Thursday, 11 December, at 7pm to be part of the occasion.''
