As part of the Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish week) celebrations, Sinn Féin held an intensive Irish language course for activists in the Roddy McCorley club on the Glen Road on Saturday 14 March.

Over 40 activists attended the classes which were divided into three levels, beginner (bun rang), medium (mean rang), and advanced (ard rang).

To kick off the day long session Sinn Féin member and Irish Language activist Ciarán Dunbar gave a talk on the way forward for encouraging the use of the Irish language in Sinn Féin's everyday work.

Andersonstown Sinn Féin representative Caoimhín Mac Giolla Mhín, who helped to organise the event, said:

"I would like to thank the Roddy McCorley society for its kind hospitality and the use of its excellent facilities.

"Sinn Féin will be facilitating more intensive courses around the city to accommodate Sinn Féin activists and others who want to learn our language.

"This was a successful event as part of Belfast Sinn Féin's programme of activities for Seachtain na Gaeilge."

To round up Seachtain na Gaeilge activities, Sinn Féin will hold an event in An Culturlann on the Falls Road on Monday evening, 16 March, to mark the first anniversary of its Irish language Cumann, named after IRA Volunteer and Gaelgeoir Caoimhín Mac Bradaigh who was killed protecting mourners in the Milltown attack in March 1988.

Sinn Féin MEP and Irish language activist Bairbre de Brún will be the guest speaker.
