De Brun urges people to attend electoral registration and photographic ID sessions in West BelfastPublished: 26 March, 2009
The Electoral Office is to hold two electoral registration and photographic ID sessions in West Belfast.
If you are not registered to vote you can go along to any of the sessions, fill in a registration form and apply to be on the electoral register.
If you do not have photographic ID, you can go to any of the sessions where you can fill in the application form and have your photo taken free of charge. Your photo ID will then be posted out to you.
The details of the sessions are as follows;
The Belfast Electoral Office, located on the 1st floor of Saint Anne's House at 15 Church Street in Belfast City Centre, is open every day from 9.30am to 4.30pm for people to apply to register or get photo ID and will also be open every Saturday in May from 9am to 1pm.
Sinn Fein MEP Bairbre de Brun is encouraging anyone who is not on the register or who needs photographic ID to go along to the sessions and ensure that they are able to vote in the European election on 4 June.
Ms de Brun said:
''The right to vote is a basic human right that Irish nationalists living in the six counties had to struggle hard for.
''I would urge anyone who is not on the electoral register to fill in the form and apply to get on the register.
''I would also urge anyone in need of photographic ID to go along to any of the sessions and avail of this free facility.
''Your vote is your voice. If you use it, you can make a difference.
''The British government and the NIO do not want you on the register. Don't let away with this.
''Make sure you have a vote when it comes to Election Day.''
