A mural in honour of those on the Roll of Honour in the Lenadoon area was unveiled at a well attended ceremony on Saturday, April 11th.

Over 200 locals and republicans from other areas gathered at the the mural, located beside the shops in Lenadoon Avenue, and which depicts Cuchulainn along with the portraits of the fallen Republicans.

The event, organised by the Lenadoon Commemoration Committee, was chaired by West Belfast resident and Sinn Fein MEP Bairbre de Brun and the main speaker was Sinn Fein's Belfast Chairperson Bobby Storey.

A plaque which was erected at the site of the mural was unveiled by local Sinn Fein councillor Gerard O'Neill.

Speaking at the mural launch, Bairbre de Brun said: ''At this time of year, Republicans show their pride in our republican history and in the sacrifices of all of those on our Roll Of Honour.

''The people whose portraits adorn this plaque were decent, selfless people who loved their country and loved this community.

''They were the brothers and sisters and the mothers and fathers of those who are gathered here today. They were our friends and our neighbours and our comrades and we will remember them forever.

''The Lenadoon Commemoration Committeee is in the middle of some fantastic work and has plans to record the living history of this community and the resistance of the people of this area against oppression.

''I am sure the local community will support them in their endeavours just as they have come here today in great numbers to remember our Patriot Dead.''
