Sinn Fein to seek views on PSNI Station

Published: 22 April, 2009

Lenadoon Sinn Fein activists will hit the streets of lower Lenadoon on Thursday and Friday to seek the views of the community regarding the possible future use of Woodbourne PSNI station.

Lenadoon Sinn Fein councillor Gerard O'Neill said:

''I will be joining my colleagues on Thursday and Friday to carry out a door-to-door survey throughout the lower Lenadoon area.

''We want to speak to as many members of our community as possible to ask them what they would like to see being done to the site of the Woodbourne PSNI station.

''At present, what we have is a militarised station on a large piece of land that is not used in any significant way by the local community.

''We believe this is not an adequate use of this land.

''Possible options include removing the station, downsizing and civilianising the station or relocating the station.

''If land was freed up on the site, it could be used to provide much-needed housing, provide places of employment or be given over for community use.

''I am encouraging people in the area to participate in the survey and let us know your feelings and ideas on the possible future use of this land.

''Any campaign that arises will reflect the findings of this survey.

''This is about people taking ownership of this issue and being part of the campaign to achieve a positive result for Lenadoon.

''We will also be contacting people in the Suffolk area to ascertain their opinion on this piece of land, as well as contacting resident's groups and community groups.

''If you have any comments to make regarding this issue and you have missed the survey you can speak to a local Sinn Fein member or forward your views to our constituency office at Connolly House on the Andersonstown Road.''
