Bairbre de Brún ag caint faoi rún 2 (an Phalaistín)

Tá Gása faoi léigear, imeallaithe ón saol mór, agus táthar ag gearradh an Bhruach Thiar i ngiotaí go laethúil, ar an mhodh sin, ag scriosadh dóchas ar bith faoi stát inmharthana Palaistíneach agus réiteach dhá Stát.

Tháinig mé ar ais ó Ghása ar ball, i ndiaidh dom cuairt a thabhairt ar an áit roimhe, go díreach i ndiaidh ionsaí mhíleata Iosrael bliain roimhe sin.

Cé gur glanadh cuid den bhrablach, is beag a rinneadh chun an méid a scriosadh a athchruthú; níl freagracht ar bith ann maidir le bás, gortú agus an scriosadh le linn an ionsaí sin, agus ní raibh muintir Ghása ábalta a saol a atógáil.

Caithfidh saorghluaiseacht daoine agus earraí a bheith ann le go mbeidh dul chun cinn ar bith déanta, agus caithfidh Iosrael deireadh a chur lena choilíniú ar an Bhruach Thiar.

Fágadh Pailistínigh ar an trá fholamh ag an phobal idirnáisiúnta mar gheall ar an tógáil lonnaíochtaí laethúla, scriosadh bailte Palaistíneacha, rian-srianadh ar shaorghluaiseacht na bPalaistíneach agus easpa dul chun cinn maidir le hatógáil Ghása.

Tá an staid faoi láthair an-dochrach maidir le hionchais le haghaidh síochána agus le haghaidh aontacht agus athmhuintearas na Palaistíne.

Ní mór deireadh a chur leis an léigear, agus is gá moltaí thuarascáil Goldstone a chur i bhfeidhm le gur féidir tús a chur le próiseas idirbheartaíochta atá cuimsitheach agus cóir.

Bairbre de Brún speaking to motion 2 (Palestine)

Gaza is under siege, cut off from the outside world, and the West Bank is being daily cut into pieces, thus destroying any last hope of a viable Palestinian state and a two-State solution.

I recently returned from Gaza, having visited there previously just after the Israeli military offensive a year before.

Whilst some rubble has been cleared, little has been done to reconstruct what was destroyed; there is still no accountability in relation to the death, injury and destruction during that offensive, and the people of Gaza have not been able to rebuild their lives.

There must be free movement of people and goods for any progress to take place, and Israel must also end its colonisation of the West Bank.

The daily building of settlements, the destruction of Palestinian homes, the severe restrictions on free movement of Palestinians and the lack of progress with regards to the rebuilding of Gaza has left Palestinians feeling abandoned by the international community.

The present situation is extremely damaging for the prospects for peace prospects and for Palestinian unity and reconciliation.

The siege must end, and the Goldstone report's recommendations implemented in order for an inclusive and just negotiation process to begin.
