Speaking today at a press conference, North Belfast Assembly member Gerry Kelly MLA said that;
"Sinn Féin is determined that the focus of our protest is the British Army march and the irresponsible decision by the British MoD to stage such an event in Belfast.
The clear opposition to this military parade points up the stupidity involved in staging such an event."
Mr. Kelly went on to say that Sinn Féin is determined "that those attending the protest can do so safely. Therefore we are proposing to switch our rally and protest to the Grosvenor Road/Fisherwick Place, with Dunville Park as the Assembly point. Read full article

Sinn Féin MLA for West Belfast Jennifer McCann has stated that those responsible for bomb hoaxes at St Colm's School in Twinbrook must stop immediately. This follows the seventh bomb scare inside three weeks. Read full article

Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún and MLA for West Belfast Jennifer McCann were joined today by family members, who have lost loved ones at the hands of the British Army, to call for the British Ministry of Defence to cancel the British army parade planned for Belfast on November the 2nd. Sinn Fein MEP Bairbre de Brun has commended those who turned out in enormous numbers on Saturday, October 11, to support the demand for an Irish language act.
Ms de Brun was accompanied at the march by the Sinn Fein president and west Belfast MP, Gerry Adams, Belfast mayor Tom Hartley, many of Sinn Fein's elected representatives and members of the west Belfast Sinn Fein Irish language cumann, cumann Caoimhin Mac Bradaigh. Read full article

Sinn Fein councillor Paul Maskey has slammed the SDLP after Upper Falls SDLP councillor Tim Attwood abstained on a proposal, at a council meeting, to twin a British destroyer battleship with Belfast, saying that he felt it was not important enough of an issue to vote against. Read full article

Sinn Fein councillor Chrissie Mhic Giolla Mhin has reacted angrily after the 3 SDLP councillors on Belfast City Council's Health and Environment Committee voted, at their meeting on Wednesday 8th October, against the continuation of a pilot scheme on bilingual street signage whereby any application submitted through local elected representatives progressed directly to survey stage. West Belfast Ogra Shinn Fein activists joined a number of senior party members at the Sinn Fein stall where an increased number of students applied to join the party.

This Saturday, October 4, a 40-strong group of west Belfast republicans will take part in a 26-mile endurance walk across the Mourne Mountains.
