Mayor Hartley opens St James's 'Kids Space'

Published: 25 July, 2008

Belfast Mayor Tom Hartley officially launched the 'Kids Space' garden in the St James's area on Friday,25 July.

Cumann members reclaimed the plot of land at the corner of Saint James's Road and Rodney Parade.

The space was cleared to give children a safe, clean and green space to play.

Cumann members and other volunteers cleared the bush and bramble as well as the rubbish that had been dumped by thoughtless people.

Seeds were provided for children to plant flowers and vegetables in their own little plots.

Also on the day children were given stones to paint and made lanterns from empty jars to hang on the trees.

There was music and a barbecue also.

The 'Kids Space' is a great opportunity for the children to learn a lot about the environment and recycling.
