Councillor Gerard O'Neill

Lenadoon Sinn Fein councillor Gerard O'Neill has been active in republican politics for over 25 years.

Gerard first became active in republican politics when he joined Sinn Fein youth in the aftermath of the hunger strike of 1981.

Around 1984 Gerard moved into Sinn Fein and became a full time activist Gerard became vice-chair of West Belfast Sinn Fein from 2001 to 2003.

He was the director of elections for West Belfast from 1998 to 2004.

In May 1998, over 10 years ago, he was co-opted on to Belfast City Council as Sinn Fein councillor for the Lenadoon area.

Gerard is presently on the Town Planning, Health and Environment and Licensing committees on Belfast City Council.

Gerard is also a member of the West Belfast Advice Forum that aims to develop poiicies and strategies for the long term sustainability of advice provision in West Belfast.
